Capra Chest of Drawers in Yew
Gill and David have for nearly a decade been amongst my most adventurous and supportive clients. They have commissioned large wardrobes, a dressing-table and a fabulous desk, and have the courage and vision to approve some of my most innovative and exciting creative ideas. This yew chest of drawers has a high storage capacity within full-extension drawers, while the curved drawer-fronts create an extraordinary sense of overlapping currents. |

Penelope's Oak Bureau
Penelope had a circular bed with circular bedside tables, circular carpets and cushions, and a bath that was almost-circular... well, egg-shaped really! She quite fairly therefore wanted a circular bureau – which also had to tidy away her laptop, printer, files, bits, bobs, in fact all the paraphernalia of a home-office. Responding to this brief took me somewhere creative that I didn’t expect to go. Challenging as this fall-flap bureau was to design and to make, I love this piece – like a sun slowly rising above the horizon. |

Miriam & Stephen's Walnut Hall Table
This beautiful hall table was made from rare solid English walnut, stocks of which I keep seasoned in my workshop. Containing two dovetailed drawers with curving fronts and cedar of Lebanon bottoms, the table features in the hallway of my clients' family home. Bringing together ideas of subtle, organic asymmetry within an elegant form, I was quite thrilled by the design as I finally drew it out complete. I instinctively knew it was right for my clients’ house – and they agreed. |

Conrad Dining Table in Oak
Although most of my furniture is designed to commission, other exciting ideas frequently emerge which are made for exhibiting and can be custom-made. The Conrad dining table in solid oak and seating 8-10, will generously suit most home dining-rooms. The subtle irregular curves of the wide rectangular top (like a square sail billowing) give an highly practical yet tactile and visually-engaging form. Made-to-order in a range of hardwoods, this dining table can be scaled up or down in size to suit individual requirements. |

Jane & Michael’s Walnut Dining Furniture
Word-of-mouth recommendations are lovely. Jane’s sister-in-law had already commissioned several a dining-table and chairs from me, so I had an ideal introduction. The success of any recommendation however is only as good as my ability to come up with the right design to suit the new client. Jane’s 2.7 metre long table has an elliptical top, with a curving four-leg open ‘pedestal’. The twelve sabre-leg dining chairs were upholstered in Jane’s own fabric choice. |

Jane & Michael's Walnut Sideboard
… and there’s nothing quite like an existing client wishing to commission further work. To compete Jane’s dining-room, a fully-functioning sideboard was needed to complete the dining-room house her dinner service, cutlery etc. The overall design, as well as the elliptical nickel handles and the carefully-selected veneers were chosen to compliment the aesthetic of the dining table and chairs, all finished with a modern lacquer for maintenance-free finish. |

Ivor's Contemporary Oak Desk
Ivor' six foot wide oak desk was designed for my client's minimalist mountain-side house in Cape Town. The project was handled entirely by email – I was sent the architect's drawings for the house, wired back the design – then the completed desk was carefully packed and shipped overseas. I can imagine this desk, in my mind’s eye, mellowing gently with age in the bright blue-white of a Cape summer, Table Mountain rising behind the house, the swell of the south Atlantic Ocean beyond… |

Alex & Martin's Walnut Dining Furniture
This eight foot solid wood walnut table, designed for a very contemporary dining-space in Chelsea, is chunky and stylish – but it’s the twelve chairs (eight on delivery, four more ordered later) that are really funky! Their open-backed structure and unusual curves combine strikingly with Alex's own choice of brightly-coloured leather upholstery. As with all my chair designs, comfort and proper back support are vital – getting the proportions and geometry just right is a fine art in itself. |

Miriam & Stephen's Oak Dining Furniture
I was delighted when Miriam and Stephen’s interior designers proposed me to design and make contemporary oak dining table and chairs to complete the re-styling of this Arts & Crafts era home in Hampstead. The shape of the three metre long oak table was inspired by the idea of a "conversation between the rectilinear and the curved" while the twelve timeless sabre-leg chairs, upholstered with Portuguese silk, complete the set |

Gaia Console Table in English Walnut
The Gaia console table was the outcome of a brief to develop my earlier Lovelock console into a more stylised form. I had long wanted to evolve the original Lovelock concept into a new piece, but it took both a new client and the timeliest acquisition of some beautiful, thick air-dried English walnut – with its natural curving bend in the boards – to complete the inspiration! |
