Initial Brief

My role is to create a unique item of furniture to suit your precise needs and enhance the ambience of your home or work environment.

You could already have a clear notion of what you want, or you might prefer to give me wider freedom to create an extraordinary piece.

Our initial meeting is therefore an opportunity to think through alternative forms, view a choice of materials, and discuss required functions and desirable features.

Specification & Design Work

My first design step will be to confirm in writing the essence of our discussion as an outline specification.

Creative work then starts by exploring various concept ideas as sketches, testing each aspect of form and function for visual coherence and technical feasibility.

When a design has emerged as interesting or extraordinary and resolved throughout, a scale drawing is prepared (or for more sculptural pieces a small model is made), which will be presented with a full specification and quotation.

I always seek to communicate my visual ideas as clearly as possible, so that you can have full confidence in the design proposals.   Open feedback from you is important, as it is at this stage that designs can be altered in either substance or detail to your complete satisfaction.

The Commission, Making & Delivery

Once the commission is confirmed, the timber is selected and brought into the warmth of the workshop for final seasoning.

The actual making and finishing of each piece of furniture is a time-intensive process, taking patience and care.

When making is nearing completion, I´ll contact you to arrange a suitable date for delivery, whereupon I can also advise you on the best way to care for and maintain your furniture.
